Laser Cutting 1mm Aluminium: What You need to know
Laser cutting 1mm aluminium sheet is a cost-effective way to achieve clean, accurate parts for brackets, enclosures, and decorative panels. At MS Laser Services, we specialise in thin-gauge sheet metal cutting from 0.5–3.0mm, with 1mm aluminium being one of the most popular options. Here’s what you need to know about cut quality, tolerances, design tips, and pricing.
Why Choose 1mm Aluminium
Lightweight and strong
Clean edges with minimal burr
Cost-effective for prototypes or parts
At MS Laser Services, we regularly cut 1mm aluminium sheet sourced from our group stock at Metal Offcuts. It’s available in brushed, polished, anodised, and mill finishes — ready to laser with fast turnaround.
Cut Quality & Tolerances
Our fibre laser delivers clean edges with typical surface roughness of around 10–20 μm, and precision within ±0.1 mm—ideal for tight-fit assemblies and visible parts
Common Applications of Laser Cutting 1mm Aluminium
Small brackets or mountings
Decorative panels
Model components
Custom plates
Design Tips
Minimum hole size: 1.5mm or larger recommended
Add small corner radii to reduce stress during cutting
Allow for a kerf of ~0.1mm in tight fits
We’re happy to check your file and advise on spacing and tolerances before cutting.
When 1mm aluminium parts need tight tolerances or fine detail, our precision sheet metal cutting service ensures consistent, repeatable accuracy across both prototypes and production runs.
Many thin-gauge aluminium jobs involve branding plates, tags, and small signage elements. For more examples of this type of work, visit our laser cut signs page to see how we handle intricate lettering and decorative components.
If you only need a small number of parts, you can often reduce material costs by using our laser cutting with remnants option, which makes use of in-house sheet remnants without compromising on cut quality.
Not sure whether 1mm aluminium is the right choice for your application? Our guide to metals for laser cutting compares aluminium with stainless steel, brass, copper, zinc, mild steel and Corten, helping you pick the most suitable material.

Yes. Our fibre laser is optimised for laser cutting 1mm aluminium and produces clean edges with minimal burr, making it ideal for visible parts or tight assemblies.
We recommend a minimum hole diameter of 1.5mm when laser cutting 1mm aluminium. This ensures accuracy, avoids distortion, and keeps edges clean.
Both options are available. We stock 1mm aluminium sheet in brushed, polished, anodised, and mill finishes via our Metal Offcuts division, or we can cut from material you supply.
We supply 1.0 mm aluminium sheet in mill finish only for laser cutting. For other finishes such as brushed, mirror polished, anodised, and checker plate, the closest stocked thickness is 1.5 mm aluminium, which we also cut with fast turnaround.
